Police investigating a series of burglaries across West Sussex are asking people for help.

Since the middle of May, police say they have so far recorded 15 such cases which they are linking, from the Witterings near Chichester across to Horsham and Crawley.

A variety of property including jewellery, cash, passports and electrical items has been taken, police said.

There has been a recent rise in residential burglaries during afternoons and early evenings, according to police, who are appealing to the public for information.

Detective Inspector Alan Pack of the West Sussex Community Investigation Team said: “There have also been a number of reports of suspicious behaviour and already there has been one related arrest.

“But we still believe there are others committing these crimes and we want the public’s help in continuing to report suspicious behaviour.

“From our enquiries we believe the offenders are from outside the county and therefore their behaviour may reflect their lack of local knowledge.

“We know they are using vehicles and they do appear out of place when driving slowly in residential streets, parking and walking around looking at houses.

“Please help us to make it harder for these offenders to commit offences in Sussex by reporting suspicious behaviour to police at the time you see it by dialling 999.”

A 20-year-old London man has been arrested on suspicion a burglary in Hassocks and has been released under investigation, Sussex Police added.

If people have other information that might help the investigation, contact online https://sussex.police.uk/contact-us/report-online/ or call 101, quoting Operation Dan.
