Woman, 45, arrested after car crashes into house in Burgess Hill

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car crashed into a house in Burgess Hill.

Emergency services were called to the collision in Temple Grove at 8.20pm last night, police said.

Inspector Darren Taylor of Mid Sussex Police confirmed a 45-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and also on suspicion of criminal damage/recklessly endangering life.

He added: “She remains in custody. There were people in the house. Thankfully the people in the house were unhurt.”

A scene guard is still at the house this morning, Inspector Taylor said. They will remain there until a structural engineer inspects the house to check the car can be safely removed.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Our crews from Burgess Hill Fire Station were mobilised to reports that a car had collided with a property on Temple Grove, Burgess Hill, last night.

“Joint Fire Control received the emergency call for assistance at 8.25pm.

“Fortunately, all people involved had managed to evacuate safely from the vehicle and the premises, and firefighters provided scene safety, before booking away at 9.39pm.”
