Woman taken to hospital after sexual assault near Horsham

Police are hunting for a man after a sexual assault near Horsham.

A woman was running along the Downs Link, Southwater, at the junction of Marlpost and Two Mile Ash Road, around 7.20am on Tuesday (October 27) when she was pushed to the ground by a man, said police. The man ran off when a member of the public walked past.

A spokesman added: “The victim has been taken to hospital and is being supported by specialist officers.

“The suspect was riding a bicycle and was wearing brown trousers and a distinctive red tartan padded jacket.”

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the assault, recognises the description of the suspect or has information to assist the police investigation to report it online or call 101 quoting reference Operation Morning.

Earlier today the Bax Castle pub said: “Due to an incident near the Bax Castle on the Downs Link this morning, we advise females not to venture alone on the Downs Link until the police have issued a statement.

“Unfortunately I am unable to divulge more information at this time, as it could cause consequences to the police investigation.”
