Worthing man appears in court after armed robbery

A man has appeared in court following an armed robbery in Worthing.

Sussex Police said officers were called to Worthing News in Rowlands Road at 6.10pm on Thursday, December 3, following a report that staff had been threatened by two men with a firearm. Four bottles of vodka and around £400 cash was reportedly taken from the till, police said.

One victim was assaulted and suffered a minor injury.

Danny Cobbold, 32, of Winterbourne Close in Worthing was charged with robbery, assault thereby causing actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm. The Crown Prosecution Service said he appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and entered no plea. The case was adjourned to January 5 at Lewes Crown Court for a pre-trial preparatory hearing.

Police were continuing to search for the second suspect. Witnesses can contact police online or via 101, quoting Operation Everdon.
