Worthing police incident: Tasers used to detain men and XL bully dog seized

Sussex Police said officers responded to a report that ‘men were damaging properties’ in the Maybridge Square area in Goring at around 7.30pm on Monday evening (September 2).
“A short while later, further properties and vehicles were reported to have been damaged in nearby Roegate Road, Worthing,” a police spokesperson said.

Hide Ad" Two men were quickly located and arrested by officers. One of the men failed to comply with the directions being given by police and a Taser was deployed to ensure his safe detention.
“Three dogs were also present at the scene. One was subdued with a Taser after it displayed aggressive and threatening behaviour towards responding units.”
Police said a 32-year-old man from Worthing was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, attempted criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, attempted grievous bodily harm, assault, common assault, and possession of a Class B drug.
Police said a second man, 25 – also from Worthing – was arrested on suspicion of affray, aiding/ abetting possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of a Class B drug, criminal damage, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, attempted grievous bodily harm, assault, common assault, being in charge of a dangerous dog that is out of control, and driving whilst disqualified.

Hide AdThe spokesperson added: “Both men have been bailed with strict conditions while a number of enquiries are undertaken to establish the full circumstances of the incidents.”
Sussex Police said that, whilst officers were detaining the two men, a third man ‘arrived at the scene and failed to comply with the directions given by officers’.
"To ensure the safety of everyone involved, a Taser was deployed, and the man was arrested on suspicion of assault,” the spokesperson said.
"He has since been de-arrested, taken to hospital for treatment, and is now supporting the police investigation.”
