Worthing town centre assault: Suspect 'found hiding behind stairs' after man 'attacked with a rolling pin'

The police were called to Worthing town centre after reports a man was ‘attacked with a rolling pin’.

A man has been arrested on ‘suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm’ after the incident, Sussex Police confirmed.

“Police were called to Montague Street at around 11.30pm on Sunday, June 1, to reports a man had been attacked with a rolling pin,” a police statement read.

"The 47-year-old victim was assessed by the ambulance service while police officers launched a search for a suspect seen leaving the area on foot.”

Officers tracked down a suspect with the support of a police dog.

“Supported by PD Raven, officers tracked the suspect – a 45-year-old man from Portsmouth – who was found hiding behind stairs leading down to a basement property,” the statement added.

"He was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a Class B drug and burglary in relation to a separate incident.”

Sussex Police said there was a ‘double win’ for PD Raven.

"Hard-working police dog Raven tracked down the suspect of a serious assault in Worthing on Sunday, June 1,” a social media post read.

"A 45-year-old man was found and arrested after the incident in Montague Street.

"Later that night PD Raven was involved in a separate incident where she tracked down items stolen during a burglary of a hairdressers.”
