The crooks even stole a Lifeboat collection box, float money from the Lifeboat shop till and money donated to the crew comfort fund for tea and refreshments. The cost of the break-in has been estimated at 2,000.

Newhaven Lifeboat press officer Pat Johns said it was believed the intruders struck sometime between 5-9pm. She appealed for anyone who had any information about the break-in to come forward.

The loss of the TV and video will effect visitors on educational trips. We have school parties, scouts and guides who tour the boat and watch a video of the work of the RNLI. These have had to be cancelled for the foreseeable future.

The stolen computer was used by the coxswain to order all Lifeboat stores.

Readers with any information about the burglary can contact Newhaven Police Station on 0845 6070999, or the Lifeboat coxswain on 01273 514143.
