Crowborough golf club donates to charities

Despite the lack of golf due to the atrocious weather, members turned out in force for the Crowborough Beacon Golf Club AGM on January 4.

At the meeting Norman Currie was confirmed as the new Club Captain for 2014 and Gerald Bonner was confirmed as the new Vice Captain. The ladies’ section had already held their own AGM at which Dorothy Turton was elected as the new Ladies Captain and Hazell Hickey was elected as the Ladies Vice Captain. Both elections were confirmed at the Club AGM.

Richard Bennett, the 2013 Club Captain, presided over the meeting and once the formalities were over cheques were presented to Grove Park School and to Sussex Air Ambulance which were - respectively - the charities supported by the Club Captain and Linda Brand, the Ladies Captain.

An amazing total of £16,126 was raised during the year by the Captains and a cheque for £8,063 was presented to Angie Wellman, the head teacher of Grove Park School and a further cheque for £8,063 was presented to Raymond Craig representing Sussex Air Ambulance.

Both recipients thanked the club for the donations and Raymond Craig said that Crowborough Beacon had an ongoing connection with Sussex Air Ambulance as their helicopter had used the Golf Club as a landing ground on three occasions when attending incidents in the Crowborough area.

The Club Captain thanked the club members and staff and the local businesses for supporting the various fund raising activities at the club.

After the cheque presentations, trophies were presented to the winners of the various competitions that had taken place throughout the year.
