There was no paws for thought when Jack Russell Cody was asked whether he’d like to take part in a special dogfood challenge.

Cody, from Crowborough, is one of just 100 UK dogs who have won places on a national dog panel to take part in a 10-day taste challenge set by dogfood firm Butcher’s Pet Care.

From Monday this week Cody started a ten-day supply of meals from Butcher’s. He (or the helpful person he takes walkies) will be asked to share online how he enjoys the dinners.

Owner, Tina Saunders said: “When I saw this opportunity, I thought it would be great to register Cody and I’m delighted we have been chosen to take part in the 10-Day Taste Challenge.

“Like most dogs, mealtimes are one of the most anticipated parts of the day and it will be interesting to see how they react to the new meaty meals on offer.”

Clare Scallon from Butcher’s added: “We decided to launch a challenge to encourage owners to swap their pets’ meals to see how happy it makes them. I’d like to congratulate each dog for winning one of the coveted places. We are looking forward to hearing about their experience. We are encouraging dog owners to serve Butcher’s for 10 days – we guarantee an empty bowl and a wagging tail at the end of each meaty meal.”

Vets and animal behaviourists all recommend varying pets’ diets and say dogs and cats enjoy a variety of meals, just like us. They emphasise it’s important owners ensure food is top quality, avoid bones that can splinter and stay away from rich ‘human’ dishes including substances like chocolate which can poison dogs.
