Maresfield’s famous fete might not take place in future if a replacement supervisory team cannot be found in time.
For health reasons, Carole and Michael Wheeler can no longer do the physical work involved in organising and setting up the fete which takes place over the late May Bank Holiday.
From 7.30pm on Friday, November 8 there will be a meeting in the village hall to discuss its future. Ideas are not wanted as to how run it - Michael points out there is a well-established format with dozens of stalls, more than 1000 visitors each year and a novelty dog show. It is also the opportunity for local groups and organisations to raise money. If no-one comes forward, Michael warns this could be the end of the fete. November 8 is crunch day, he says and thanks the dozens of helpers who provide much-needed support.
