Crustaceans at close quarters at Blue Reef

Comical cleaner shrimps and bizarre-looking horseshoe crabs are among a cluster of crustaceans on show at a Hastings aquarium this week.

Visitors to Blue Reef on Rock-a-Nore will be able to enjoy some close encounters with a gaggle of weird and wonderful crabs and lobsters throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

And among the star attractions on display will be Bob the sponge crab who was caught by a local fisherman just off the Hastings coast but is more usually found in the Mediterranean.

Elsewhere, fish-lovers can meet Neptune - a giant lobster who measures more than three-quarters-of-a-metre in length and tips the scales at 3.72 kilogrammes - and a warm water species of crawfish that can make a loud creaking noise when alarmed.

Blue Reef's Kate Buss said: "This weekend event provides the perfect opportunity to let people find out more about crustaceans in general."
