CUCKMERE Valley Horicultural Society held an annual Early Summer Show in the Alfriston War Memorial Hall on June 11.
Although the number of exhibits in the fruit and vegetables were down on last year, due to the very dry spring, the numbers of entries in the flower sections increased - especially in the flower arrangement categories which were of a very high standard.
The show was judged by John Ottoway, a Seaford resident who has judged shows for 60 years at the highest level.
Many people attended the event and enjoyed cakes and teas provided by Wendy Nicholson and her team.
The Fred Claridge Cup for photography was retained by Mark Hurst for the 4th year in succession, and he also retained the tankard for men’s flower arranging.
Ian Thomas achieved ‘Best in Show’ for his peas. John Hurwood again won two cups for his roses and vase of mixed flowers.Zan Stevenson and Ken Lloyd were awarded a plaque each for their sloe gin and scented roses respectively, and in the junior section, Bea Wallwork, Patrick McKenna and Arabella Wallwork all won awards for thir decorated egg shells plated with cress.
