'Cutback' claims come under fire

CLAIMS that some West Sussex County Council services were facing cutback were condemned as a 'distortion of the truth'.

Cllr Steve Waight , cabinet member for resources, said nothing could be further from the truth than the view being put out by some county councillors.

"Services are under financial constraint but not facing cutbacks," he told a meeting of the county cabinet, when members unanimously agreed to recommend the lowest percentage tax rise for 15 years.

"This is the biggest distortion of the truth that is realistically possible. There are no cuts in this budget."
