It happened in Sudley Road, Bognor, about 2pm on Wednesday, April 4.

A member of the public saw the collision and alerted the emergency services while following the cyclist into nearby Hotham Park and returning him to the scene until the police arrived.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “This was an unfortunate incident for the elderly woman - who has suffered a painful fracture - but, thankfully, remains in a stable condition.

“I would like to thank the member of the public who helped the injured woman and showed great initiative by following the cyclist into a nearby park and persuading him to return to the scene.
