She was rushed to St Richard's Hospital with serious injuries but died later that evening.

The driver of the lorry, a 23-year-old man from the Littlehampton area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Mrs Bone's daughter, Lucy Jenkins, told the Gazette her mother was a "vibrant person who made friends easily".

She said: "We are shocked and upset about the accident but it is comforting to hear that some people stopped to help.

"I would like to thank those people and ask them and anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward and make themselves known to the police.

"I spoke to her regularly on the phone and she had recently just seen her first grandchild. She leaves her husband, her daughter, two sisters and her one grandchild and will be sadly missed.

"The funeral service will be open to anyone who knew her, but details are not arranged as yet."

FA Holland of Littlehampton is organising Mrs Bone's funeral and can be contacted on 01903 713939.

Police are appealing for witnesses, in particular the driver of a white Ford Transit van, who is believed to have seen the accident, to call them on 0845 60 70 999 quoting OperationCadnam.
