Da Vinci target reached after spring ball success

Officials at the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital have announced a total of £31,000 was raised March's charity call '“ this completes the amount needed to pay for the da Vinci surgical robot.

This is a record amount in the event’s history and ensures the full cost of £1,000,000 for the purchase of the robot has been raised within 15 months and not the twenty four the trustees had anticipated.

A number of businesses and organisations helped boost the fundraising total, including Toby Meyer from Ministry of Hair who raised £1,000 by doing a 24-hour cut-a-thon in the salon. He presented the cheque to the Friends president at the ball.

Ed Giddens, who was master of ceremonies at the event, which was held at the Winter Garden, presented Friends of Eastbourne Hospital president Dr Peter Nash with a cheque for £20,654.57. The total raised from the auction at the ball.

Dr Nash said, “Lots of people have done a huge amount to help us achieve this and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this very special major project.”

The Friends of Eastbourne Hospital will continue their fundraising to help better services at the DGH.

Trustees now hope to raise £500,000 for a second CT scanner. The machine will support increased technological advancements in computed tomography delivering speedy and accurate results for stroke and cancer patient diagnosis.
