Dahl-icious efforts by pupils honour author

Instead of children, Willy Wonka, a golden ticket, Oompa Loompas, Miss Trunchball and Esio Trot all arrived at Eastergate C of E Primary School for the Dahlicious Dress-up Day to support Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

Staff and pupils managed to raise £93.10 for the organisation which uses funds to care for children with lifelong neurological and blood conditions

Graeme Oakford, deputy headteacher, said: “It was a fantastic day, and really good fun. All the children dressed up as their favourite character from the books, and all the staff made a really great effort.

“We had an assembly together, and the children were read The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me. Everyone really got into the spirit of the day.”

Claudia Winkleman, the ambassador for the charity, and said she was proud to support the dress-up day. “Children love dressing up -– it is a great way to boost their self-confidence and encourage creative play by stepping into the shoes of their favourite Roald Dahl character for a magical day.”

The charity was founded in 1991, and since then it has given more than £7 million to help young people.

The event at the Church Lane school took place on September 28.
