Dan sets off on charity cycle ride for Help for Heroes

AN ALDWICK man has a 2,000-mile cycle ride ahead of him.

Dan Hanson left Bognor Regis on August 29 to head for Istanbul. He will travel to Hull to catch a ferry to Rotterdam to begin his ride with three friends.

They will pedal through The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Turkey before their journey’s end on October 5.

Bognor Hotham Rotarian Dan, who lives on the Craigweil Estate in Aldwick, will be 64 on the day he sets off.

He served in the Territorial Army for 13 years during his teaching career.

He said: “I was always impressed with their professionalism and dedication.

“I believe strongly that those injured in the service of the nation deserve the very best of care we can give them as they seek every day to rebuild their bodies and rebuild their lives.”

Dan is no stranger to long cycle rides. He has made it from Bognor to Marseilles, Santander to Almeria, Rome to Palermo and Land’s End to John O’Groats but his latest challenge is on a different scale.
