Dancers' club in toe-tapping style in Felpham and Middleton

Folk dancers enjoyed plenty of toe-tapping action to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Felpham and Middleton Folk Dance Club.

About 65 people from around Sussex attended the special occasion at St Mary's Centre in Felpham.

Dances dating from the 17th century to the present time were called by Rosemary Hunt.

The music was provided by her husband and daughter. Collectively they are known as Orion's Ring and are recognised as among the country's top providers of folk dancing.

A splendid birthday cake, topped by two model folk dancers, was made by club member Kathleen Stevens and cut by the club president, Joyce Came.

Proposing a toast to the club, chairman Sheila White expressed the hope it would continue to be successful for the next 25 years and give enjoyment and friendship to people of all ages.

The club has 25 active members who meet every Friday from 7.30pm until 9.30pm in the small hall of the Jubilee Hall, Elmer Road, Middleton.

No experience of folk dancing is necessary. Newcomers just need a willingness to join in and contribute to the friendly atmosphere which has ensured the club's success over the past 75 years.
