The Mad March Pub Quiz Challenge, being staged by the Friends of Sussex Hospices (FSH), promises to be a money-spinner for a worthy cause.

Pubs across Sussex are signing up to hold a quiz in aid of the 12 wonderful hospice care providers that serve the people of the county.

Broadcaster and local resident David Dimbleby has given his support to the initiative.

He said: “The Mad March Pub Quiz Challenge is a great idea.

“I know about the work that our local hospice in Eastbourne does and the same is true about all the hospices in Sussex.

“The more of us that can support the quiz challenge the better. Please help.”

Organisers are inviting publicans to dedicate one of their regular quizzes to FSH. The quiz challenge urgently needs more landlords to participate so there is a spread of pubs involved across both East and West Sussex and quizzes being staged throughout the month.

If you haven’t held quizzes before, this would be a great time to try it out.

Today (Friday) FSH is holding a Quiz Alert meeting at The John Harvey Tavern in Lewes (10.30 for 11am), introducing organisers who will answer questions and and reveal some of the pubs participating. All are welcome.

Any pubs wishing to hold quizzes in aid of their local hospice are welcome to pass any funds raised in the Mad March Pub Quiz Challenge directly to them.

Successful quizzes need lots of quizzers – so organisers are inviting everyone to come to one of the participating pubs and exercise those little grey cells in a good cause.

Quiz fanatics could even use the month-long event as an excuse to visit not just their local pub but lots of new ones. And if your local pub isn’t yet signed up, maybe you could suggest they join in.
