David takes on cycling trek to raise money for MS charity

A Felpham man and his bike are taking on the British Isles.

David Ames decided just a month ago to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End for charity.

The result of his impulse will see him start from Britain's northernmost point on Saturday, July 11.

He hopes to be pedalling into Land's End 950 miles and ten days later having raised a large sum for the MS Society and Parkinson's Disease Society.

David is raising money for the MS Society after a close family relative was recently diagnosed with the neurological condition. David's father-in-law died of Parkinson's Disease.

David, 45, will be travelling alone, with no support car or crew, and staying in B&Bs along the way. He has had little time to plan but has a good level of fitness through his daily cycle rides.

He said: "I am very excited about the challenge. I love cycling and enjoy seeing new parts of the country. I am not nervous but I will probably be forced to question the wisdom of my endeavour at times."

David is hoping to cycle around 100 miles a day in between six to eight hours.

"I'm flexible on cycling times depending on attractions I pass and my ability. I like to cycle early in the morning and ideally I'd start at 7am but this may be difficult staying at B&Bs '“ when full breakfasts are on duty," he explained.

He will be met at Land's End by his wife, Helen, and their four children '“ Jake, Sasha, Calum and Toby.
