Steven Edwards, the Professionals 2013 winner, was recently at the weekly cookery class at the Strawford Centre for people with learning disabilities. They all got their hands dirty with pasta and ended the morning enjoy a lunch together.

Support worker Sarah Shepherd, who leads them said: “The guys always choose what they are going to cook. We cook hot lunches and we like to get them involved in this as much as we can.”

The day centre is run by West Sussex County Council’s adult services team.

Cabinet member for adult social care and health Cllr Peter Catchpole was also there. He said: “It’s great a personality like a masterchef to give up his time for this activity.

“It means so much. He is getting his hands dirty but all these people will remember this for a long time. It’s a wonderful experience.”

Centre customer, Jane, said: “It has been brilliant. I have made lots of pasta. I loved making all of it.”
