Dead man found in river in Hamsey, Lewes

POLICE have issued a description of a man they are trying to identify after his body was found in the river in Hamsey, Lewes on Tuesday morning, 13 March.

The body was found by two men fishing at around 9.20am.

The man, in his early 60s, was wearing black clothing, including boots, short jacket, scarf, jeans and carrying a rucksack.

DS Julie Dow said: “We haven’t yet identified the man. He was dressed head to toe in black and we hope people may have seen him in the Lewes area in the days before his death.

“We are investigating the circumstances of his death, which we are not treating as suspicious.

“Anyone who believes they saw the man in recent days should contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 0271 of 13th March or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
