Deadline looms for petition to reduce speed limit on C7 between Lewes and Newhaven

A petition calling for the speed limit to be reduced from 50mph to 40mph along the C7 between Lewes and Newhaven has attracted more than 260 signatures.

The deadline to sign the petition is on March 18.

It was set up by Judith Bradbury who argued the measure would improve safety for all users and enhance the character of this rural road in the South Downs National Park.

The petition is calling on East Sussex County Council to reduce the speed limit.

Susan Thompson from the Ouse Valley Cycle Network, which is supporting the proposals, said: “We’ve been advised that, given enough support, there is a good chance that the C7 speed limit will be reduced when work starts on the Kingston to Lewes section of the Egrets way at the end of March.”

The Ouse Valley Cycle Network is aiming to create a network of multiuser routes in the Ouse Valley.
