Dear thieves - stop stealing our blooms

Light-fingered thieves who have repeatedly targeted a Bexhill guest house, stealing hundreds of pounds worth of hanging baskets and potted plants, have been left a letter of warning by the owners in case they darken their doorstep again.

Rachel and Andy Keevil, owners of the Buenos Aires Guest House, Albany Road, were incensed when early on Saturday August 22 they discovered five pots of plants and a hanging basket had been stolen. Rachel said: “This is the fourth year this has happened. We put a lot of effort into planting, growing, dead heading and watering our plants every year to give our guests and neighbours a huge floral display that brightens up the street. We’ve been lucky enough to win Bexhill in Bloom for the last three years.”

Green-fingered Rachel said they believe this latest theft - the second this year - happened overnight (August 21). “We think it’s someone who lives nearby and they have to have a car. It’s not just the time and effort it takes to make these glorious displays, it’s the cost. We lose about £200 a year.”

In an effort to put a stop to the thefts Rachel and Andy wrote a letter to the heartless thieves, in case they returned, and pasted it to a board by the guest house entrance. In the letter the couple warn the robbers that their days of stealing from them are numbered, and says: ‘Thanks to you AGAIN, our visitors, neighbours and holiday makers have been declined the opportunity of enjoying the flowers...next year we shall not be buying flowers for you to steal and will be installing CCTV to catch up with you this year as we expect you will steal again.”

Anyone with information on the thefts call Bexhill police on 101.
