The hand grenade was discovered lodged among rocks in the ground at their home in Woolborough Road, Northgate at about 8.15pm on Wednesday (June 15), said Sussex Police.

It was likened to the Death Star from the Star Wars series after Crawley Police shared a photo of it on its Twitter account.

Simon Walker tweeted: “@Crawley_Police looks like the Death Star!”

A force spokesman said: “Police attended and the rusty object was found to be the outer casing only. It contained no detonator or explosive and was completely inert. It was later removed by military Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel.”
