Hard working volunteers removed dozens of bags of rubbish from the beach between the River Rother and Winchelsea earlier this month.

One team started from Rye Harbour and the other from Winchelsea Beach.

Volunteers enjoyed warming soup at Lime Kiln Cottage on the nature reserve when they had finished.

Nature Reserve manager Barry Yates said: “This was one of the two big beach cleans that take place every year, but nature reserve staff and some local people clean the beach regularly.”

Details of 75 Rye Harbour Nature Reserve events for 2015 can be found on their website or picked up from Lime Kiln Cottage, Rye Library or Rye Tourist Information Centre.

The next big beach clean is on March 7 2015.
