Sussex Police said: "About 10.30am on Tuesday, May 7, police received a report of a device – possibly a hand grenade – found in the loft of a house in Newick Road, Brighton.

"The house has been evacuated, and a small cordon has been set up in the road, which is currently partially closed, as a precaution. No other homes have been evacuated.

"The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) has been requested to attend the scene.

"No further info at this stage."

Bomb disposal experts have arrived at the scene this afternoon.
