St Gregory’s Montessori Nursery School was hailed as ‘excellent’ with staff praised for understanding children’s individual needs ‘extremely well’ after the inspection on October 18.
It has risen to the top after being rated ‘Good’ in its previous report.
Now the nursery is outstanding in its effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children catergories.
The school watchdog report said, “Staff make meticulous assessments of children’s progress.
“They skilfully use their high quality observations to ensure that they understand children’s individual learning styles, interests and individual needs extremely well.
“Managers monitor children’s progress precisely to inform their insightful evaluations and to ensure all children have equal opportunities to meet their full potential.”
It also says children become ‘engrossed’ in an ‘extensive variety of activities’. They leave the setting ‘significantly well-prepared for their future learning’, the report says.
“For example, they have excellent numeracy skills and begin to understand some simple calculations.”
Responding to the news, headteacher Sue Taylor said she was proud of all the nursery staff.
She said, “I am very proud of the whole team.
“We work really well together and every member of staff works tirelessly to ensure every area of care and education is provided at the highest level for our children and their families.”
St Gregory’s Montessori Nursery School is a term-time only nursery, located close to local schools in Victoria Drive.
It has an ‘amazing’ garden space which is used all year round.
