Highly skilled staff and meticulous work to keep children safe have seen a nursery earn a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.
Stepping Stones, in Morris Road, Lewes, was visited by inspector Jo Caswell on July 15 and her findings were published on September 30.
In her report, Ms Caswell stated: “The care provided for children is excellent. Staff are highly attentive, dedicated and fully committed to providing the highest standards of care. ”
The report was greeted with delight by owner Geraldine O’Brien and manager Diane Costen – particularly the ‘outstanding’ rating given to the nursery for its work to ensure the well-being of the children. Ms Costen said: “That’s what’s most important for us – their welfare is first and foremost.”
Stepping Stones was last inspected in July 2014 when it was rated ‘requires improvement’. That rating was left firmly in the past as Ms Caswell reported the leadership team had “made significant improvements to the quality of teaching and support for children’s learning”.
Describing the nursery as “an exceptionally happy, fun and homely environment for children”she said the youngsters showed a keen interest in learning and were extremely well prepared for the step up to primary school.
Ms Caswell added: “Across the nursery, children are confident; they express themselves freely and they behave extremely well.”
