Delight as new Littlehampton Jubilee Centre becomes an instant hit

COMMUNITY groups in Littlehampton have this month taken full advantage of the newly-opened Southfields Jubilee Centre.

It was an idea which had been in the pipeline for more than 30 years.

Now, after just a couple of weeks, the diary for the community centre, in the eastern section of Littlehampton, is already jam-packed with groups hoping to use the site.

It’s something which Littlehampton Town Council says only confirms the investment’s “much-needed” status in the town.

On Friday, about a dozen youngsters from across the area took part in a special photography session, to help christen the building.

The event was part of Littlehampton Town Council’s SPACE scheme, which has been running for nine years.

The children were taught the basics about photography, including how to use the camera and the principles of light and shade.

However, the youngsters haven’t been the only ones using the centre’s gleaming interiors.

Arun Short Mat Bowling Club has moved its headquarters into the Jubilee Centre – much to the delight and joy of all the members at the organisation.

The club, which was formed more than 18 years ago, was formerly located at the St John Ambulance Hall, in East Ham Road.

However, after receiving a grant from Littlehampton Town Council to assist in the move and the purchase of the new equipment, it is now, once again, thriving.

Chairman Viv Dye said the move had already proven to be a great success and she was looking forward to welcoming new people into the fold.

The club hosts two weekly bowling sessions, one on Mondays, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and again on Wednesday afternoons, from 2pm to 4pm, with the first official meeting taking place on Monday.

A spokeswoman from Littlehampton Town Council – which contributed about £500,000 to the centre – said: “We have been overwhelmed by the number of applications to use the site.

“This is really reassuring that we have done the right thing building this much-needed investment.”
