Since being elected as the town’s MP she has worked to ensure the ferry remains in Newhaven, especially when there was a possibility of closure.
Ms Caulfield has met many times with Transmanche and the French port authorities both in France and Newhaven to put across the desire for the ferry link to be maintained and its importance to Newhaven’s regeneration.

“During my time as Newhaven’s MP I have worked with the ferry operators and campaigned to ensure that the service will continue. I regularly meet with the French port authorities here in Newhaven and travel to Dieppe for meetings in support of the ferry service. I have made sure that they are aware how much we want the ferry here in Newhaven.
“The ferry and the benefits that it brings are a vital part of the ongoing regeneration of Newhaven and I am delighted that it will be continuing for a further five years and also that passengers will see improvements to the restaurant services.”
