He was pleased with the acknowledgement of good leadership and relationships; that the children were given a very good start in the foundation stage and were well prepared for the next stage of their education, achieving standards above national expectations.

The inspector recognised that issues identified for action in the previous inspection in January 2005 had been successfully addressed.

Mr Davies said: 'Pupils received a letter from the inspector who thanked them for being so welcoming, polite, friendly and well-behaved.

'The inspector recognised that pupils were very happy in school, they worked well in lessons and their achievement as they move up through the school is good which helps them reach above average standards through an exciting curriculum and good teaching.'

Areas for further development will now include building on the opportunities for pupils to practise and improve their writing skills in a range of subjects and involving pupils more in checking their own progress against targets set.

The ethos of the school and the personal development and well-being of pupils were considered outstanding and confirmed by a inspector who conducted a separate denominational inspection of collective worship, religious education and ethos of the school.

The inspector felt that 'the school, through its distinctive Christian character, is outstanding at meeting the needs of all learners.'
