Organisers of the first Seaford Food Swap were delighted with how the event went.

It was held at The Old Boot in South Street on Saturday January 25 and saw swappers laden with baskets of food to trade taking part.

Food swaps have been underway in the USA for some time but are quite new to the UK.

They encourage people to get together in their community and exchange home grown, homemade or home brewed items with each other. No money changes hands.

It was organised by Adele Walshe and Di Moreton.

Adele said: “ I attended a similar event in Tunbridge Wells and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, so thought why not try it in Seaford.”

Di added: “It was just like Christmas.

“Such a happy atmosphere and everyone going home with arms full of different delicious fare.”

The organisers thanked Lee at the Old Boot for allowing them to use his premises free of charge.

They also thanked Chris and Dennis who gave up their morning to take photos, film and interview visitors, and to H T Partnership for their marketing assistance.

At the event participants set up some tasting samples for people to try out.

After a look and taste of the produce, participants finalise swaps and collect their produce to take home. The next food swap will be held on Saturday April 26. Visit or join our facebook group.
