The deliveries of brown garden waste bins for households that did not register in the spring, will now take place in February and March next year.
Collections will start from April 7 next year.
Although nearly 44,000 residents took the opportunity to sign up for garden waste collections in Wealden last March, since then a further 4,000 households have asked to join the scheme, the council said.
Cllr Rowena Moore, Cabinet member for Customer Services. said: “The number of new households wanting a garden waste collection is expected to require Kier to adjust some of its garden waste collection rounds.
“The large number involved has also impacted on the manufacturers’ delivery times.
“The new refuse and recycling service was introduced in July and is still settling down. We think it would be unwise to make any changes to the round structures at this stage.
“We are sorry we have not been able to bring these households onto the garden waste scheme this autumn as had been hoped.”
