Dementia Adviser service

There are almost 10,000 people with dementia in East Sussex, with numbers expected to rise to 13,000 by 2021.

There is therefore an increasing need for access to local dementia services and with this in mind, a new 'Dementia Adviser' service has been launched in the county.

The service, laid on by the Alzheimer's Society in partnership with East Sussex County Council, NHS East Sussex Downs and Weald and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is to help local people with dementia and their carers navigate local information and find relevant support in the area.

It was developed after speaking to people with dementia and their carers about their needs.

The government recommended Dementia Advisers be introduced as part of the National Dementia Strategy for England 'Living well with Dementia' and has since commissioned a number of these services across the country '“ with Alzheimer's Society providing over 50 Advisers through more than 20 services.

The service in East Sussex is available in three locations - St Anne's Centre in St. Leonards-on-Sea covering the Hastings and Rother area, Master's House in Eastbourne covering Eastbourne and Lewes, and Grove House in Crowborough covering the Wealden district.
