Dementia awareness raised at Henfield

Awareness of dementia was raised by West Sussex County Council during an open day at Henfield Day Centre.

The day was aimed at showing professionals, customers and families of those with dementia the range of services that are available through the centre, which is at Hewitts in Henfield.

Professionals from a range of agencies, from Age UK, the Alzheimer’s Society and the community support group Know Dementia, provided information about their services.

Customers were able to take part in a variety of enjoyable activities during the day, including an art therapy session and aromatherapy hand massage. Also available were blood pressure and diabetes checks.

A cake sale and raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses and stallholders, raised £90.

Manager Shonagh Buchanan said: “This was a fun and stimulating day for professionals to network and for visitors to learn more about the services on offer that could help loved ones.

“Our customers said they enjoyed the art therapy session and having so many visitors to the centre.”
