Dementia Awareness Week

The local branch of the Alzheimer's Society will be a hive of activity during Dementia Awareness Week from July 5-11.

The organisation will be busy spreading the word and raising funds across the region.

The Hastings and Rother Branch has arranged street collections and awareness events that it is hoped will attract interest and support from local people.

Fundraising Co-ordinator Sarah Neighbour said: "This is a great opportunity for us raise money and awareness, and we are really hoping to receive the generous support of the community.

"Dementia has rarely been out of the papers recently, and this increased media coverage has encouraged more people to make their first contact with the branch.

"We offer support services to both people with Dementia and their carers, and urgently need the help of local people in order to continue.

"We are holding street collections in Bexhill '“ Saturday July 4, Hastings - Friday July 10, and Battle on Friday July 24.

"In addition, we have an advice and information table at Priory Meadow on Saturday July 11 where we would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in learning more about what we do, particularly those interested in volunteering opportunities for the branch.

"Remember, any donations that you give will be used specifically for local service provision, so your donation will be helping local people. We would urge the public to be as generous as they can."
