Design Awards - your chance to choose

BUILDINGS and structures shortlisted for the 2009 West Sussex Design and Sustainability Awards include a café, a library and a tollbridge.

Members of the public are now being asked to do their bit and vote for their favourite in the 'West Sussex Gazette Reader's Award'.

The 2009 awards are being run in association with the West Sussex Gazette and are a chance to celebrate the architectural quality and character of West Sussex buildings.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy Deborah Urquhart said: "A record number of applications were received for this year's awards and the quality of entrants has been excellent."

The entries will be judged against the following categories:

The New Building Award: for new buildings that best show the principles of good design.

The Sustainable Building Award: for buildings using the principles of sustainable design and which are designed to minimise their impact on the environment for the life of the building.
