Despair as '˜vile' yobs vandalise Rustington nursery

Kirstie Smith, 30, was left “in tears” when she saw the walls of her Little Stars Nursery, in Ascot Way, had been plastered with obscenities and offensive images.

Police believe the building was targeted at some point on Saturday evening (November 10) and have launched an investigation into the crime.

Mrs Smith, who is on maternity leave to look after her five-month-old son, said: “It’s vile and disgusting what those vandals did to the nursery.

“I was extremely upset when I saw the graffiti. I was in tears.

“I couldn’t understand why anyone would target a children’s nursery like this. It’s terrible.”

Mrs Smith rallied a group of staff and parents who spent much of Sunday carrying out emergency work to clean the vandalised building – which had undergone a £135,000 facelift little more than three years ago.

“The sad thing is the money that we spent on paint would have gone straight into buying toys for the children. Because all our profit goes to buying toys and equipment for the kids, they have effectively snatched that from them,” she said.

Police said the vandals used red and green spray paint. They also “tagged” the wall with the initials LBB and LWG. Officers are also investigating a possible link with vandalism to a car in the village.

PCSO Lee Matthews said: “The writing was extremely offensive and in no way could be left on the wall for the children to see on Monday morning.”
