Due to the severity of the fire, four fire engines from East Wittering, Chichester, Bognor Regis and Selsey were immediately sent to the scene.

The East Wittering crew arrived to find a raging fire involving 50 per cent of the property.

It appears that the man had awoken sometime during the night feeling cold, which prompted him to switch on his electric blanket to keep him warm.
