Developer wins long battle to build homes in Westbourne

Developer Southcott Homes Ltd’s planning application to build 16 new homes, along with car and cycle parking, on land north of Long Copse Lane was refused by Chichester District Council planners in October, 2014.

But following a planning inquiry in October this year, the Government’s Planning Inspectorate has approved it.

Among inspector Jonathan Manning’s findings included that ‘the proposal would not be a prominent projection into the rural area’.

In conclusion Mr Manning found that: “Having regard to all other matters raised, including the strong concerns of local residents and the parish council, I consider that the proposal constitutes sustainable development and therefore the appeal is allowed.” A previous application for 22 homes on the site was turned down on appeal in December, 2013.
