Diamond Jubilee plans hatched in Uckfield

PLANNING for Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Uckfield on Monday, June 4 are moving on apace.

The main event will be held on the Victoria Pleasure Ground from 6pm. Talented local entertainers and groups will appear live on a specially installed stage in slots of about 15 minutes. The evening is scheduled to finish at about 10.30pm with a firework display, the lighting of a beacon and stirring songs and music led by Uckfield Singers and the Concert Brass Band.

A procession leaves Elizabeth Gardens at 7.30pm and all residents are invited to take part. They are being asked to wear red, white and blue and carry a lantern.

A prince and princess fancy dress competition in three different age categories will be judged when the procession arrives at the Victoria Pleasure Ground.

Refreshments including hot food, alcoholic, non-alcoholic drinks and ice cream will be on sale at the Pleasure Ground.

Shops in the town have been asked to dress their windows in red, white and blue in the four weeks leading up to the event and the colour palette will be carried through into town floral displays.
