Diamond ring worth almost £5,000 stolen from Lewes jewellers

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man with a distinctive Mohican hairstyle stole a diamond ring worth almost £5,000 from a Lewes jewellers.

Sussex Police say the man stole the ring from W E Clark and Son jewellers in Cliffe High Street at around 2.20pm on Wednesday, June 8.

Police say he asked to see a necklace inside one of the cabinets in the shop and while he was looking at it managed to take a platinum ring set with diamonds valued at £4,995

He then said he felt unwell and needed to leave the shop. He walked across the road and as was seen passing behind the nearby Superdrug store.

Staff noticed the ring was missing shortly afterwards and contacted police. Officers carried out a search for the suspect but could not find him.

He is described as white, 6ft, heavily tanned, aged between 35 and 40, with a distinctive Mohican hairstyle and a large tattoo on the back of his neck. He was wearing a pale pink jumper, blue jeans and a blue and white Adidas trainers. He carried a bag with the logo Profile on it.

PC Kevin O’Connor said: “We want to hear from any witnesses who may know who the suspect is or have any information or any jewellers or dealers who may have been offered the ring for sale.”
