Sharon Gorf, sales director of Parker and Highland Joinery, in Lancing Business Park, has been left frustrated by a complex Government auto-enrolment scheme for pensions.

The scheme means the firm must find up to £15,000 extra a-year from 2017 to fund worker’s contributions, with other businesses already experiencing the roll-out.

Mrs Gorf said: “I’m really annoyed that we have just got through everything in the construction industry and the thing that really irritates me is we have got to make provisions and find additional money to pay my staff these pensions.

“I find it really galling when we are struggling to even look at pay rises, which they all deserve.”

Mrs Gorf said employees across the board did not think about saving for the future.

She said: “I think there should be an automatic provision when you start working as a youngster by law, at a rate decided by the Government.

“The whole country would be better off.”
