The developers’ previous plans to replace the 200-year-old pub with housing were rejected on July 25, by Arun District Council’s development control committee.

Councillors voted by nine votes to nil, with two abstentions, to refuse the permission. They said the proposal to build some 14 homes was too cramped for the Bilsham Road plot.

Committee members were also unhappy some front doors opened directly on to the pavement. Concerns the scheme would have an over-bearing impact on the neighbouring property of Well House were also voiced.
