Ditch idea of funding Arundel bypass, says panel

A PANEL set up to challenge eco-town promoters to improve and develop their proposals has said that funding the proposed A27 Arundel bypass should be abandoned.

The comment comes just a week after the special select committee set up by Arun District Council to look into the proposals recommended the eco-town should not go ahead without a firm commitment to the bypass.

But the Eco-Town Challenge Panel has recommended it should be abandoned because 'it is not consistent with sustainable principles'.

Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbert said: "I think the case for the eco-town is falling apart.
