DITCHLING DOWNS WI: Were delighted to welcome Neil Hunt, Tales from the Top Table. Neil resplendent in a bright red cut away coat and wing collars gave a highly entertaining talk on his role as a toastmaster. As a Fellow and past President of the National Association of Toastmasters and a member of the City of London Beadles Guild he gave a fascinating insight into the duties, nuances and amusing tales he has experienced over the last thirty years. We were a small group in contrast to a recent event he was working at, the Guildhall, City of London in the presence of the Princess Royal and 535 guests. But big or small Neil cuts an impressive figure. Our speaker for our April meeting is Mike Visagie, The Impact of Poaching in Botswana. Visitors are very welcome. Any enquiries please contact Barbara Dollings on 01273 843892. Friends Meeting House, Tuesday, 7pm for 7.30pm.

DITCHLING PLAYERS: Duets by Peter Quilter, May 10 to 13. By the time you read this, rehearsals for our spring production are well under way. The auditions held in January were well attended, and our producer, Penelope Bennett, was able to fill all of the roles. Duets is described as a comedy in four acts and a funny examination of the chaotic world of love and relationships. It looks at four couples at crucial moments of their lives. In Bind Date, a couple go on a blind date, hoping to get it right, even though they never have before. Secretarial Skills, looks at a boss who isn’t really that interested in women but whose secretary sees it as no reason for him to stop trying. The Holiday finds a couple who have decided to have a holiday in Spain to finalise their divorce, whilst drowning their sorrows in cocktails and, finally, in the The Bride-to-be, we discover a woman who is marrying for the third time, much to the dismay of her brother and amidst a barrage of bad omens. All four plays are a tribute to the strength and madness of the human heart. The Players are pleased to welcome some familiar and new faces to the Ditchling stage to portray these various characters. Tickets go on sale on Monday April 17 and are available from Chatt Estates, 34 High Street, 01273 844500. We look forward to seeing you in the audience.
