Ditchling WI: Our November meeting was our Annual Meeting. Our Secretary recounted all the interesting events for the year and our President spoke about the last year and thanked everyone for their helping in making it such a success. We voted in our new Committee and President. We had a beehive drive which we all enjoyed and followed this with tea and biscuits. The flower of the month was won by Margaret Emmerson. Our next meeting is our Christmas party on Thursday 1 December in Ditchling Village Hall at 2.15pm. Visitors always welcome. Any queries please contact Briony Coomber on 01273 845069.

Ditchling Film Society: The Christmas film on Thursday 1 December is Rams. This film is about a curmudgeonly Icelandic farmer and his estranged brother, whom he has not spoken to for forty years. When a lethal disease suddenly infects some of the sheep, the feuding brothers band together to save their flocks of sheep from the authorities who want the animals destroyed. A deadpan comedy which is not only captivating and continually surprising but also a master class in combining character and landscape. We shall be serving our seasonal mulled wine and mince pies to get the Christmas festivities off to a good start. Director: Grimur Hakonarson. Icelandic 2015. 93 mins. 15 Cert. The first film in the New Year is on Thursday 12 January and is called Bridge of Spies. This gripping drama is based on a true story which is both powerful and full of intrigue and tension. During the cold war the Soviet Union capture a US pilot and sentence him to ten years in prison. New York lawyer James Donovan boards a lane to Berlin hoping to win the young man’s freedom through a personal exchange. If all goes to plan, the Russians would get Rudolf Abel, a convicted spy. Director: Steven Spielberg. English, German, Russian. 2015. 142 mins. 12A Cert. Films are shown in Ditchling Village Hall and start at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm. Free coffee and biscuits beforehand and wine can be purchased by the glass. There is ample free parking behind the hall. Guests and temporary members are welcome for the sum of £5 payable at the door.

Ditchling Players: Tickets are now on sale at Chatt Estates, 34 High Street, Ditchling, 01273 844500, for the next production. Blithe Spirit is running from Wednesday 23 Saturday- 26 November in Ditchling Village Hall. Please note that curtain up is 8pm and not 7.45pm as previously advertised. £8 to see the Wednesday production and £9 for Thursday-Saturday.

Jazz Evening: Come and start the festive season on Friday 2 December in Ditchling Village Hall. Listen and relax in a cabaret atmosphere with a bistro setting to the Mike Lavelle Quartet which plays easy listening jazz with a female vocalist. This is a fundraising event by the Friends of the Princess Royal Hospital to help with upgrading the Neo Natal Unit in the Princess Royal Hospital. Bring your own food and drink, though there will be a cash only bar and a raffle with lots of goodies to be won. Tickets from Mike Lavelle on 01444 831475 or Ditchling Post Office.

Christmas Concert: Enjoy an evening of music with the talented and infectious Vivace Choir on Thursday 15 December. Raising funds for our local hospice, St Peter and St James, the concert is being held in the hall in Danny House, Hurstpierpoint. Doors open at 7pm.
