Ditchling Downs WI: At the June meeting a fascinating talk was given by Heather McNiven on Bees in my Garden. Heather has kept bees for 12 years and is a member of the Sussex Beekeeper's Association. In winter it's only the queen and workers that are in the hive and in autumn the male drones are driven out. Bees can travel two to three miles in search of pollen and nectar. They visit 50-100 flowers during one trip and must visit two million flowers to make 1lb of honey. The speaker at the next meeting is Danny Banting and he will be talking about the Mary Rose. This meeting takes place at the Meeting House, Ditchling on Tuesday 5 July. 7pm for 7.30pm. For further information please contact Barbara Dollings on 01273 843892. Visitors are very welcome.

Ditchling Village Hall Trustees: are looking for someone to take on the role of Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) who would have the authority to authorise the sale of alcohol on the premises (Ditchling Village Hall) and ensure that the sale is properly managed. Despite its title it is an authorising role so the Supervisor would not have to be on the premises when alcohol is being sold. They would, however, be responsible in ensuring that a proper procedure is in place for any function at the Hall where alcohol is being sold. It is certainly neither an onerous or time consuming job, but it is an important one as without it, any Hall user selling alcohol would need to apply for an individual alcohol license. If you are interested in taking on this role or would like more information, please contact Phil Smith at [email protected]
